Erik P. Cadra DMD offers the finest care in pediatric dentistry. Whether your child needs a routine exam, emergency treatment, or a special appliance to protect their teeth from damage, we are here to provide every aspect of your child’s dental care.
Our team has vast experience in pediatric dentistry. Our skilled providers are warm and welcoming, assuring that your child will learn to enjoy their dental visits. This is an important first step in a lifelong relationship that benefits their long term oral health. No matter what your child’s age, we provide a positive, safe experience.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends your child’s first dentist visit be scheduled by the age of one year, or within six months of their first tooth coming in. Primary teeth are more important than many people realize. “Baby teeth” are not merely temporary and disposable. They play an important part in the development of speech, contribute to good nutrition and diet, and act as space preservers for the location and alignment of the future permanent teeth.
We take the time to educate your child about the importance of proper oral hygiene and using the right methods in their brushing and flossing routine. And the first visit is also an excellent opportunity for parents to learn about the proper care of their children’s teeth.
Special care is required for children’s teeth. In addition to routine
cleaning and exams, we can apply a sealant that helps guard against cavities and gives added strength. Fluoride varnish is also available, and also provides safe, effective protection against cavities. With each visit, we reinforce good oral hygiene habits, so your child’s daily oral routine becomes well established.
Sometimes there is a need to extract a child’s tooth before it falls out naturally. This might be due to excessive or very large cavities, physical trauma and damage, preparation for an orthodontic procedure, or problematic wisdom teeth. Our team is committed to helping your child through this experience with minimal discomfort and experienced caregiving.
If your child does have anxiety about their dental visit, sedation is available to help them through the experience. We use nitrous oxide, which provides calming and relaxation without causing sleep.
If your child has developed a habit of grinding their teeth while sleeping, it could be causing severe damage. A custom fitted mouthguard can not only help prevent or reduce the damage, but can also help break the habit. If our team notices signs of chipping or wearing down of the tooth surface, lesions on the cheek or tongue, jaw or neck tension, or tooth fractures, we can offer this method of addressing the problem.
Another reason for a custom fitted mouthguard is if your child is playing contact sports. Getting them fitted before they begin their sports program begins can help provide protection from serious injury.
